HA HA...I just called you a gumnut! It's Australia Day in the Land Downunder and what better way to celebrate than bring you some NEW Australian themed Digi Stamps and offer you some inspiration with a quick blog hop!!

What is Australia Day? Well in short, it's the day that the first fleet of convicts arrived in Sydney Australia (yup we are a bunch of convicts!! haha) but today we celebrate what's great about Australia with our family and friends and it usually involves a few snags on the barbie (BBQ)!

So let's celebrate amongst friends from around the world and share some crafting inspiration with an Aussie Outback theme!

I have created this clean and simple card using the GUMNUT image. What is gumnut you ask? It is the hard woody fruit from a Eucalyptus tree. I think it colored up so beautifully! You have to go look at the other new images that Zoe has....if only i had a few more hours in the day to get them colored to show you. I will soon though!!

One thing that has always driven me crazy is spending hours coloring images. Okay, it's not the coloring that drives me crazy, or the hours I devote to it, It's the fact that in high school I used to paint, draw and create and today I lack confidence and the knowledge that I wish to have.

It's one of those thing that if you don't practice you lose some of it. As I tell my student...practice practice practice....yet with drawing I do not do it. Well things are gonna change. I think I should go back to school. Okay not this week, this week I am drawing. Today I drew eyes, although not perfect I can say I DID THIS! Makes me happy!

Taking The Work Out Of It!

So many have asked me what colors to buy to get them started. I have been able to narrow it down to about 36...give or take a few. These are my "Grab it" colors that I recommend. Most of these are used in my Build-A-Book classes as well as card classes. I find this is enough colors to color the world. Be warned though...coloring with Copics is addicting!

Click on the image to see it close up. A couple of other colors I recommend are E08, E33, E37 and YR31 (if you are taking my classes).

The Monster In The Scribble

Because I just can't get all my pens into bed with me (it's a hubby thing), I just take my iPad. Some of you might remember as a child doing a random scribble and then seeing what you can see in the scribble. Okay, maybe it was just me. So a random scribble on the iPad turned out into a baby dragon. This is the before and the after.

Crop Girls Birthday Cards

Stampendous Monthly Color Challenge

This month challenge is to make a card or project using the colors pink, brown, cream and gold or at least 3 of them. I made this card for the Stampendous Catalog. I took 2 wide pieces of Crepe ribbon (by Creative Impressions) slightly overlapping and taped them down. Using Versamark I stamped and then embossed the image using Stampendous Clear Bark embossing powder. The Embossing powder fused the two pieces of ribbon together. I flipped the ribbon over and colored using Copic R83 on the reverse because embossing powder and Copics don't play nice. I flipped the ribbon back over and adhered to the card.

Here is a fun card i made using Stampendous Shirt Waists. I stamped and embossed on tissue paper, then crinkled it up a bit. I used my copics to distress the edges of the cork. I had some old button cards in my stash so I used them up. This was quick but turned out quite nice I thought.

I'm Getting a Little Sketchy!

I needed to do something for ME...yes, today it all about me...me...me! I drew, I Colored, I accomplished what I was aiming for. These are some Chilis from my garden that had sat in the Arizona sun and dried up.

A few things I have learned. When your dealing with a pencil sketch, start with the background first. Secondly you CAN use any paper you have sitting on your desk...it doesn't have to be "Copic compatible". The paper I used (thank you Marianne) is All In One printer paper. It tuned out so cool and was so easy to blend. This paper takes a bit of practice as it soaks up ink fast and spreads. Also note I am not completely happy with my shadows...but I am over it and moving on.

New to my heart are these adorable stamps by SimplyBettyStamps. They are such characters. They have some Digi's too. I have been looking for just the right fit in my style of coloring, and have found them finally. Betty draws characters with nice eyes, great hair and faces as well as just all around cuteness with a slight warped design. It just fits ME! Here is my first one colored for you. Thank you to all the incredible, talented ladies who attended the Arizona Copic Retreat 2011. What a fun, FILLED weekend we had. Everything went pretty smoothly for 38 gals all in the same room and I am looking forward to planning the next one. Rumor has it Jacksonville, Florida in April of 2012!

STampendous Challenge, Oh Goody Goody!!

It's the first Saturday of the month, and that means it's time again for a new challenge with the Stampendous team! This month, to kick thing off and celebrate World Card Making Day, we are looking towards the holidays AND trying to keep it Clean and Simple. That's right - we are making Clean and Simple (CAS) holiday cards!! You'll see a few team members showing off more than one card today; some chose to make one CAS and then take that design and showcase how to "step it up". Others chose to make sets of CAS holiday cards that could be given as gifts or used to make a dent in the Christmas card list. (this challenge is even a challenge for me as I am layerer (yah i know its not a word..but that's what I do)!

Our challenge to you this month is to join us in making CAS (clean and simple) holiday cards. I had a blast doing this quick card. I have been working on doing "power" coloring where the card assembly takes longer then the coloring...what a concept! I am training myself to just "get the ink down and not be so picky...geesh, hard one for me but fantastic practice.

Found this image online and had to color it up. This is actually the color of these flowers. They are called Celosia and they are beautiful fuzzy flowers. I colored this up a few weeks back and since have lost my sticky note with all the colors I used. If I find it I will add it back in. I totally "crack" myself up! I had to do it you know. Last week I did a very ummmm, sexy card. Well I covered up all the parts :) This week I exposed all the parts. Here is what I created for Dustin Pike inspiration for his Animals Rule Challenge. I used all the same stuff as I had used in my last "sexy" card to kind of mimic it. This was fun. It's A Show Off - Stampendous and Mayarts

This week Stampendous and Mayarts have joined together to share some wonderful greatness. The design teams from both companies has some fabulous stuff to show as well as goodies to give away. Be sure and go to Stampendous and MayArts to checkout whats going on. I have created this card using one of Stampendous' soon to be released Vintage Crowns Perfectly Clear Stamps set, I added some Mayarts Turquoise Wired ribbon, a few peacock feather and old trinkets I have been saving.

I used the embossing powder to distress the edges of the cream paper after random stamping the background. I wanted to stay constant with the look of it so I embossed the crown to match, cut it out and added the Dot Sparklers to make it pop. I Distressed the blue background with some coffee grounds and water so it wasn't so bright as i wanted the image to stand out more then the background. Adding a bit of old junk added the rustic look I was looking for. And who can resist adding a couple of pretty small peacock feathers?

This card uses the SSC119 Vintage Crowns Perfectly Clear Stamps set, AC672HSQ Turquoise Dot Sparklers Class A’Peel Stickers, CRR105 Cling Dream Text Background Stamp, EP505 Clear Bark Embossing Powder and 364-15-04 Turquoise, wired 1.5” ribbon by May Arts.

Reflection

I was up to the challenge this week, and figured out how to squeeze it in my busy schedule. This week at Make It Colourful the challenge was to color something with reflection in water. This is what I colored. I used an image by Talkabout Images for this one and have been waiting for just the right time to color it. I colored the background paper and created my own clouds to make the image continue onto the background.

This is Trudy one of Mo's adorable images. I colored her up (she is 7" tall) and colored a few dresses too. She is placed on a card but popped up so her dresses still can be removed and changed out. I had a blast coloring something for ME (well its a gift). I am posting it on Mo's facebook for a contest. A Tough One!

I wanted to do something for the challenge over on Make-It-Colourful. This one was a toughy for me because it lends itself to finding the perfect image that might cast a reflection or source of light onto the surfaces around it. Well I decided as I did not have the right image I would make the image I had the right image to use. I used the lady bug in this image to cast a light onto the surfaces around it, as if it was a red light. It was fun to do and opens many door for more light sources. All you have to do is use a little imagination :) I happen to have a LOT!! I would have love to have time to color this again before submitting to make things a little crisper and more refined...but who has time for that.

Okay, so the card is simple, but the image is simply elegant! This Sugar Nellie image is so adorable. I had fun coloring her hair especially. Lots of tiny thin controlled flicks. Be WARNED, do not attempt this after a big cup of coffee.

I LOVE the digital images from The Emerald Faerie Garden. They take me away from reality (who needs house cleaning, cooking and tending to everyday life anyway?). This image is so joyful. I had a great time coloring it. I popped up a couple pieces to make it really look like its coming off the page. Click on image to get the details of the shadows and shading. I used the airbrush to create the background and then added the shadows on top of it.

I am entering this card into Make It Colorful Challenge where we are to use blues....I think this falls into that category. You can go HERE to add your creation too.

This Stampendous Blog Hop is featuring the NEWEST, LATEST and GREATEST Jumbo Cling Rubber Flower Stamps

These stamps are so easy to use. Just put these foam mounted Jumbo stamps on one of Stampendous jumbo clear blocks and stamp with crisp images every time. I have even stamped on my walls with them. You can use them to make cards, layouts, home decor. They are just THAT versatile! See all the hop info below, but before you go to all the happy places or is that Hoppy places along the way...

Here are the instructions I worked up so you can make this card too.

1. Stamp for yourself 3 of the Cling Jumbo Tiger Lily and color with your favorite medium (I used Copics of course R59 R46 R35 YR68 Y38 Y15)

2. Cut a 5.5 x 12 piece of cardstock (I used white)

3. Score and cut according to my little sample below (Score at 4", 6" (with space), 8" and 10")

and Cut at 1 1/2" and 4" between the 4" and 10" score mark

4. Cut pattern paper approximately (1) 1 3/4" x 5 1/4", (1) 4" x 5 1/2", (6) 1 1/4" x 1 3/4", (1) 2 1/4 x 3 3/4,

5. You can make layers by changing the measurements by a 1/4" smaller.

6. Stamp sentiment (I used Garden Beauty sentiment SSC1113) and adhere everything to the card however it makes you happy. I put two of the Jumbo Tiger Lilies on the back of the card to create dimension.

7. Decorate the front of the card and the last page of inside of the card. I used some of Creative Impressions NEW wired Bow ribbon! I gotta get me some more of that stuff!!!!! Go to the link and see all the wonderful colors. While your their look at the other wired ribbons HERE

Build-A-Book Sneak Peek - Class 6

We are winding down the first of many series of the book class going on right now. Many sad faces in the class because of course we do not want to see the end. The good news is YOU now have lots of techniques to continue building your skills. I have enjoyed meeting you all and look forward to adding to your book in the near future. For those joining me at The Build-A-Book Copic Retreat in October here in Arizona, you will soon see all the stuff I have been talking about and more. Yes its true. In 4 days we are over 3/4 of the way full at The Copic Retreat. Image purchased from The Emerald Fairy Garden I really LOVE all the fairies. I entered this into Make it Colorful - Cast Your Shadow challenge. I love making shadows. When I add a shadow it is usually after the whole image has been colored. Then I come back and put in my shadows. You will notice that even the water drops have shadows.

Location: Marriott Fairfield & Courtyard Chandler, Arizona

The cost of the retreat, excluding hotel and 2 dinners, is $329.00 (first 30 day registration); $379.00 after the first 30 days. For this price, you receive:

· 18 plus hours of organized classes filled with the latest Copic techniques

· Your very own 40 page workbook plus work sheets to color (completed by you) and placed into your technique book

· Evening coloring crop times with personal assistance as well as bonus projects to add to your book

· 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner

· Gifts and Prizes!

These classes are perfect for the beginner as well as the experienced. There is always information to be gained, plus the experience of a fun, full weekend of wonderful people with whom to share your coloring passion! The teaching room will open at 1:00 pm on October 21st, with the Meet and Greet starting at 4:00 pm. Dinner will be served at 6 pm, followed by Copic Introduction class, and evening crop open until 11pm. Saturday the 22nd will be action-packed with technique classes, challenges, games, and breakfast and lunch included, (dinner will be on your own). The evening optional coloring crop will be open until midnight with instructors present. Sunday the 23rd, after breakfast, we’ll have another full day of classes and techniques, prizes and fun. We will break for lunch (provided) and dinner (on your own). After dinner we will have a class and then start the evening crop, and farewells until midnight (with instructors). The evening crops are optional, but available for whoever would like to color, relax and catch up on worksheets and get personal assistance. Participation in all classes is optional, so you can head out, at any time, to enjoy some local attractions.

What you will learn during these classes:

· Copic Basics - differences in papers and stamp pads (what works and doesn't). We will test multiple papers and inks and see how they react with Copics.

· Playing with Various Copic refills for backgrounds

· Over 5 blending and coloring techniques

· Light source and shading

· Hair, Eyes and Skin

· Monochromatic

· Fur and Feather

· Wood and Metal

· Sky and Water

· Snow and Transparent (e.g. glass)

· Blue Jeans, Pleats and Folds

· Leaves and Grass

· Pottery

· Bonus Classes: Water coloring with Copics, using Glossy Cardstock, and playing with Airbrushing and more.

**Copic Refill Stations will be available on site as well as possibly one of our sponsors, Talkabout Images with their rubber stamp line.

Your hotel room and travel expenses are separate as well as 2 dinners. We have a wonderful deal with the newly built Marriott Fairfield ($89.00 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy) and Courtyard of Marriott ($99.00 per night plus tax, single or double occupancy). Marriott has a bistro, full bar, 24 hour Starbucks, Wii Fi, pool, exercise room and more for your convenience. If you live locally, you are not required to stay at the hotel. If you want a roommate, please note it in the application that will be sent to you. We will help match up attendees. You must mention Copic Build-A-Book Retreat when you call to make your reservations or use the link provided in the application mailed to you to book online. If your spouse would like to join us for one or more meals, let us know as soon as possible, and we’ll find out the cost for that.

This FULL weekend retreat is available for up to 30 attendees and we’ll have a waiting list in case of cancellations. So reserve your spot by:

(2) Sending a $100 deposit. I will provide a mailing address after you let me know you plan to attend. If you prefer, we also accept Paypal payments for retreat payment. The deposit will reserve your place at the retreat.

**The deadline for making your deposit is September 1^st, 2011. The balance will be due by October 1^st, 2011. Hotel Reservations (booked separately directly to the Marriott, due by September 26^th to guarantee the special Copic retreat price.)

Green with Envy

Okay its Challenge time over of DustinPikes blog. Its a color theme and as I was out of it, I had to cheat a bit...take an image, color it up, and put it on a card that was already made...that is what happens when one is not up to par. :) I am getting better by the day and wish my equilibrium would return so I can play. Ears are not something to mess with...and you say "what did you say", "I can't hear you"..ha ha

It has given me time to crunch numbers for my upcoming retreat. Just waiting to sign papers for the Marriott in Chandler and then its finalized and the emails with info on the Copic Retreat will be flooding out. I have had a tremendous response with people wanting information. This is going to be amazing!! Fairies and more Fairies

I am totally in a fairy mode lately. This is only the beginning. I purchased a handful of stamps from Sweet Pea Stamps and I am just waiting to get well enough to color them. But I did have one sitting here waiting to be posted. You are going to love these images. What I love most is the eyes. i love images that have eyes to color. I think they bring so much life into the project. The artist is Ching-chou Kuik and I love her work. Be sure and check them out.

Going Dotty...or going batty

I have been in bed for 2 days now with an ear infection. I am so out of sorts I can't even color. It is that bad....I don't sit still well either. I just might lose my mind. So I thought I would share some images I have been coloring but haven't found the time to make into cards.

I am entering this into Make It Colourful Challenge Blog for Dotty Backgrounds. I used this adorable Mo Manning image. I had a blast coloring it.

Last weeks challenge at Dustin's Blog was to create something using Dudley and his Power Wheel. This image is free on his blog. You can look through his blog for bunches of free images HERE.

My Truck is Yellow in real life (because yellow makes me happy), so I chose to put Dudley on a yellow truck.

I used my Grab Copic Colors (first choice colors) to color this image

A Little Summertime

And the ants are out here in Sunny Arizona. I love this image...something about coloring a watermelon that make me feel summer. I love Dustin's little ants too...he has a whole handful of them in the new May membership images. Be sure and get May membership HERE.

Yes, Its finely here! Save the dates October 21, 22 and 23rd in Phoenix, Arizona. This sought after book class, taught by Jennifer Dove, combined into one full weekend. Everything you wanted to know about Copics, from blending, choosing the best paper and ink, Copic information and techniques. Learn how to color with your Copics using these techniques ranging from monochromatic, fur and feather, metal, pottery, grass and leaves, snow, transparent objects, skin, eyes and hair, water, blue jeans, pleats and folds, light source, wood grain, clouds and more. Beginners and advanced welcome. By the time you are done with the retreat you will have what it takes to be confident in your own coloring and creating. In the end you will have your very own 40 page Copic technique book with all your samples for reference.

Another moment to play. And I even have a few more in progress..they are yummy too. I colored in the clouds and actually colored the shadows upside down....no, not me, i wasn't upside down....the cloud shadows are all wrong, but I wasn't about to stop...just went with the flow. I love how it turned out...but next time I might have to color upside down (yes me) to do it correctly :)

I finally had time to play. It seems like the classes have been keeping me very busy and when I get to color its for work (not that it's not fun).
