Oh Baby

I am pleased to be a guest designer for the new release at The Paper Nest Dolls this week.  All of the release stamps and digitals are so darn cute I had a hard time choosing but in the end I decided on this stamp with Baby Owen with Lamb.   I stamped the image multiple times so I could do some stacking with the cute lamb.  Even though I used the little boy stamp I still decided to color it up like a girl (note the pink bottle).  I was trying to keep it generic...but oops.  I added the letters B-A-B-Y using a die from My Favorite Things to create a platform for the image to sit on.
This was super fun to color and now I have a stamp that will work for all those baby cards.  I could even use the little lamb on its own as it is far enough away from the main image to cut out.

Here you can see all the layers I have created.  I love to pop things up on a card as if you couldn't tell.

If you head over to Paper Nest Dolls and leave a comment you can potentially be a random winner of some yummy goodies...go ahead...go do it!  You can check out the other images in the release too!

Willow Climb

I just love this newer image from Stampendous, "Willow Climb".  This is a quick and simple card that lets the image shine without to many distraction.  I love how coloring the House Mouse stamps are so easy with the drawn texture in the image.  You really dont have to worry about a smooth blend other then the face.
This is a card I am teaching at the end of this month as well as the big sold out event in April at Yosemite.  But you can grab your own stamp and whip this little card up all on your own.  I added Ivory Seashell Nuvo Drops to accent the image.  They look like little pearls.  I love this color and if you aren't a color collector you at least need to grab this one.

Coffee...Yes Please!

This is the 4th card I designed for one of my classes in April in California.  Sometimes I wonder why I drag my feet kicking and screaming to get things done.  When I finally finished this card I was doing a happy dance because I just love it!!  I am a huge fan of this clear set from Whimsy as well as the paper combos.  It just makes me H-A-P-P-Y!
The layout just fell together after I quit fighting it.  Ever have one of those moments?  It is quite simple to color as there were very minimal colors used to achieve this look.

{Heart} You

My mind went a little boingy when I started designing this card.  Its one of those...I'm not sure I love it, but I love it cards.  This stamp is from La-la Land Crafts.   For this card I used the new release Heart Hands Molli.  Did you know she is either rubber or digi?  Perfect for everyone.   I added the stripes to Molli's clothing.  I wanted matching paper for the skirt so I used my black Copics to create the stripes.  I love how I can make matching paper.  I do like the mixture of crazy papers.

I wanted to use the Open Hearts Doily die in an unconventional way so I cut off the lower portion of it and started entwining different pieces to make it more dimensional.  I should have added the Nuvo drops before it was on the card so they would be nice and round but alas it was an afterthought.  I did use some of the hearts from the border to add elements.  If you look at all the little pieces that are the leftovers from the Doily die you can see that its great pieces for a shaker card, so save them.

Hello Friend

Do you ever feel intimidated by an image?  Some people think images that have a lot of detail are way above their coloring skills.  Well I find that the less detailed images can prove to be harder.  Those wide open spaces where you have to work on a smooth blend are the ones that can get you.
DoveArt images already have detail in them and for this images, and many like it I literally scribbled in the color and didn't worry about a smooth blend.  Sometimes I think we overthink things!  This stamp is a new release from Whimsy Stamps.  I will be showing how quickly we can color this image in classes in both Phoenix and at Yosemite retreat.  We will get to play a bit with airbrushing the background to match the theme as well.

For this card I used the new Two Flag die from La-La Land and the Say Cheese frame from Lawn Fawn.  I love the impact of this card, yet allowing for simplicity don't you?

Celebrate!

I decided to take a moment for me!  I colored up this sweet new released rubber stamp from La-La Land Crafts.  Her name is Darling Molli.  I combined her with La-La Land Cherry Blossom Border die.  I used the flower die on the edges of the card as a border and then used the tiny centers of the Cherry Blossom die (the scraps that looked like stars) on her dress.
I did a simple airbrushed background and then stamped over it with a tiny dots rubber stamp that I had laying around.  I enjoyed the little break from reality.

I have been buried in design mode for weeks.  I don't see the end in sight quite yet either.  Give me two weeks.  I am designing 4 cards for my local 48 people for February, and designing 4 cards for 48 people in March.  Then in April we head to Yosemite for a huge retreat and some classes.  I am designing 4 cards for 100 people and another two classes of 4 cards each with 25 - 48 people.  Okay math time...that is 300 people total at 4 cards each...that is 1200 cards to be prepped.  Thank goodness I have a little help from my friends when it comes to prep!  I just need to get past the design stage.  There is always tomorrow.

Happiness Is...

Happiness is a cup of coffee with a friend (especially if that coffee is flavored with Baileys).  I have a sweet spot for this adorable little House Mouse® by Stampendous.  Add this perfect sentiment and its complete.

For this card I had some white smooth buttons that I colored with the Copic markers to match and then gave them a little spritz to add the textured appearance.  A quick and easy way to compliment the card colors.  I finished the buttons of with some green Pebbles to cover up the button holes.

We will be coloring this image in the "Back to Basics" card class in Oakhurst, California (Sponsored by The Cat's Meow stamps and paper crafting store).   You can find all the info as it unfolds under Class Schedule tab above.

Little Bit O' Honey

As soon as I saw this stamp set from Stampendous I knew I had to use it.  in this clear set, Honeycomb Wishes it has a lot of different stamp to choose from.  I am a sucker for bees, ok, images of bees...not so much the real thing.  I wanted to use the Nuvo Jewel Drops like as if it were honey.

After stamping the image I used Mustard distress ink and a dauber to create the yellow base.  I added a little Copic (yah, I know...a no-no...whatev') to the lower portion of some of the honeycomb for dimension.  Then I added some of the Nuvo to it to make it shine.  I wrapped the back with the cheese cloth and popped up the hand cut-out bees.  Once the whole thing was assembled I added small "honey" drops to the cheese cloth.  I also added some dripping "honey" to the sentiment

I loved making this card so much I will be using it in this months class in Phoenix.

With Love

My challenge to myself is to try to combine the DoveArt stamp line with another newly release Whimsy stamp.  For this card I used Teddy with Heart Balloon and Bouquet.
I stamped the Bouquet stamp partially off the page and then colored up the images.  I then die cut around the Bouquet to create a layer.  After stamping and coloring the bear I fussy cut it out and popped it up on top of the Bouquet.  Wanting some checkerboard paper as the background (of which I didn't own) I decided to make my own with a ruler and a sharpie marker.
I added buttons and bling on the coffee hand-dyed cheese cloth and finished it off carefully with some pink Bubblegum Nuvo drops.  To complete it, I used a chippie word from Make It Crafty.

I love how this card turned out and I hope you are inspired to try something new...how about that checkerboard background paper?

Best Buds!

I am having a blast combining DoveArt images with Whimsy stamps.  This sweet Penguin is layered on top of two layers of the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside border die and then popped up onto the Tree Silhouette background stamp.  I finished it off by adding the My Favorite Things "Words for Friends" die.  Simple and sweet!

Here is a closeup of the layers.  Not a lot to do to make this the card.  Sometimes we just need a little simple in our lives.  You know I am itching to add glitter, fluff and stuff!  Step away from the craft table!!!

Sweet Maynard

I am showcasing a second one of my favorite cards using DoveArt "Maynard".   I designed the cute stamp from a photo taken by a dear friend Lori amazing bear created of Fools Gold Bears.   This stamp is now available though Whimsy Stamps.  I am super attached to his "old teddy bear look" that he gives off.
I thought I would keep with the feel of the stamp and use some old goodies I had in my stash.  A little coffee dyed cheese cloth, a piece of old tablecloth and some vintage buttons onto of some new distressed pattern paper did the job.  I cant wait to see what you do with the sweet little Maynard from Whimsy!

Peek-a-Boo, I See You

I am so thrilled to announce that the wonderful company Whimsy Stamps has picked up the DoveArt Studios line of stamps.  We are thrilled to be a part of the talented design team as well.  The first release is showcasing some of the stamps that Whimsy is releasing this month.  I am showing off one of my favorite stamps.

I love the cool feel of this card, as if the moose was walking through the Alaska outback and just poked his head out from amongst the trees.  After coloring the image up I fussy cut him out (which was super easy to do.  I added a little chunky embossing powder to the trees for some added dimension.  I wanted to keep it a bit more masculine so instead of ribbon I added some twine.   A little edge distressing and !POW!, man card done!   This would make the perfect Christmas card for next year too...so many uses in one stamp

The trees in the background will be in a future release so be on the lookout for this very versatile stamp.
