New Release - Stampendous Day 5

And the suspense is killing you right...you want to see more?  Here is little Ms. Tutu Toads main man.

I colored him using E31 E35 E57 E79 on white card stock and cut him out.  I did this so when I used my blender pen to remove some ink for the toad bumps they would stand out more  Then I placed him on Kraft paper.  I left his tag blank so that those taking my class can add there own sentiment when ready to give the card away.  This was such a fun card to color.

I just love him so much.  He is the perfect size to color too.  His name is Sir Toad (for reals).  I layered him onto the NEW Bicycle Background stamp.  Isnt this yummy?  BTW...another card for my class.

Everything New can be seen HERE or look through the catalog HERE

The image us called Single Butterfly (duh)

See you tomorrow with more new images

Showing off the Shine!

I love shoes.  My favorite shoes are my Dr. Martens (bought by my hubby in San Francisco).  They have "me" written all over them.  I thought I would try my hand at drawing a pair and then coloring them up.  I also wanted to challenge myself with patent leather.  So here is my...attempt.  I have to admit I let out a squeal of delight when I was done!!

Metal Mania

Coloring Objects to look like Metal

I hope you have been practicing up on your coloring skills. For this tutorial, we are going to talk about coloring metal like objects.  You can use any of your alcohol markers to accomplish this.

Metal object are really fun to color. As you know, Copics don’t come in metal colors. The look is achieved by using regular colors. When you color metal images there are a few important things to remember: shapes and the reflections in them, contrast from white to almost black, and leaving distinct sharp clean edges in the reflections. Sharp edges and white highlights nearest the light source will make the object appear shiny. You need to be able to “see” the shape of the reflections and highlights and be able to interpret them using your markers. It really helps to be able to work off a photograph or true to life object. Round objects will have distorted highlights, where flat objects will have straighter highlights. Since most metal objects appear smooth, we will want a smooth blend. Even old metal objects are smooth. First thing to do is figure out where your light source is coming from because this will determine where the highlight will be. Keep in mind as you’re coloring that it is much easier to make light colors darker than it is to try to make your darker colors lighter. When coloring a metal object, the principles for coloring is the same no matter what type of metal you are trying to portray. If your image has straight edges like a bucket, you will want the lines to follow the shape. If it were a curvy vase, your lines would mimic the curve.

Let’s get started with this pail as an example.

You can see by the step-by-step instruction that I color in long wide streaks vertically within the object, leaving straight edges.

In these photos you will see, from left to right, the progression using C1, C3 C5 C7.  Using your lightest color, color everything but the place you want the highlight. This is more for reference. You will want to work one side of the object at a time so you can work the ink while it is still wet. Next, you will take your darkest marker and color vertically following along the edge of the object. Using your medium-dark marker, you will color vertically overlapping the inside edge of your darkest color and blending. Bring this color out about the same distance as you did your darkest marker. Take you medium marker and follow the same steps as the last. You will finish that side up by slightly overlapping your lightest color, and if you have harsh lines, you can smooth it out with your blending pen.

Remember your lighter markers have a tendency to push back your darker colors so you might have to repeat the steps to bring the dark colors back. Work it while wet and it will blend more quickly. You will repeat all the steps on the other side of the object. Depending on the type of metal you are coloring, you might have to repeat the steps to get the desired look. For old brass and aged copper-like objects, the shine is usually not as vivid and you might have a slight patina look to it.  Note: Colors were altered when taking the photo.

Here are some fun examples of coloring metal object

Below are some fun colors to try. See how you do. Remember, if your metal object is near something, then you will want some of those colors included in your metal image as a reflection.

Little Bit Different Christmas

Make it Crafty just made my day with their latest Steampunk Christmas images.  I think this is my most favorite card in the entire universe!
It also weighs about 3 pounds with all the gears attached.  Even has a clock that ticks...tick tick tick....I love my noisy card.  You can see some of the other images in this release HERE.

I colored him up with Copics and then used Shabby white embossing enamel from Stampendous for the sprinkled snow.  I added some blue glass glitter and bronze mica fragments as well.

I layered him on a gear image I created using Dreamweavers Gear stencil and mat white paste.  I airbrushed the gears and added some of Dreamweavers fab Metallic FX to make it gold and sparkly.

Did I mention this is my favorite card?  I am glad I got to share it with you.

PS.  Yes, the sky is airbrushed prior to adding the "snow".  The colors I used were B23 B24 B26.

Stampendous and Core dinations Team Up - Hop!!

I love to alter things.  This paper is no exception.  Emboss it, sand it, tear it...oh what fun!!
I used Stampendous  Steampunk Owl and Life Is Art sentiment.  I tucked the owl behind Core dinations super cool black magic paper after running it through an embossing folder.  I love how it turned out.  Needless to say this won't fit in an envelope, but maybe a little box.  Thank you for looking and have fun on the hop!

WARNING...Crafty Witch

I woke up this morning with an idea...430am.  Seeing as sleep was not going to continue I thought I would try my hand at a little drawing.  I am not all peachy keen on the drawing but I do like her all colored up.  There are a few things I would change (like her hands)...but I am over it.  Take her and color her if you would like.  Please don't give the design away but refer people to my blog.  Thank-yah bunches!  Have fun with "Crafty Witch".  Feel free to leave me a message so I can see how you colored her up.

Chubby Fairy

....here is another Crafters Companion little Nymph.  I drew her sitting on some rocks dangling her little toes in the water.  I added little bumps all over her by using my blender pen to remove in.  Then adding a little shadow to each bump...this will leave a raised appearance.  If you want to learn all about these types of things sign up for my weekend retreat in November.  Detail in the Retreat tab above.  I think I can slip this one into the Crafters Companion Challenge...Hey I colored in fall colors!

She is colored in G40 G43 G46.  Something different for me right?
